1. Agreement to these Terms
By downloading, installing, accessing, purchasing content through, or using Storyfold, you agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Storyfold.
These Terms apply to the Storyfold mobile application, the website at storyfold.games, Storyfold interactive stories, and related services that link to or reference these Terms (together, the "Services").
Additional terms from the platform or storefront through which you download Storyfold or make a purchase may also apply. Where mandatory platform terms or applicable law provide rights that cannot be limited by these Terms, those rights continue to apply.
2. About Storyfold
Storyfold is an independently published interactive-story application created and published by Cristian Barlutiu ("Storyfold", "we", "us", or "our").
Storyfold presents standalone interactive stories that may include narrative choices, investigation, clues, puzzles, branching scenes, and different outcomes. The exact features of a story may vary.
3. Who may use Storyfold
You may use Storyfold only if you are legally able to enter into these Terms. If you are under the age at which you can enter into a binding agreement where you live, you may use Storyfold only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you and for any parental-control, device, or storefront restrictions associated with your account.
4. Licence and permitted use
Subject to these Terms and any applicable storefront rules, Storyfold grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to use the Services for your own private, non-commercial entertainment.
You may not, except where applicable law expressly allows it:
- copy, redistribute, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Services;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract source code from the app;
- circumvent access controls, payment checks, purchase entitlements, or technical protections;
- modify the Services or create derivative software based on the app;
- use automated systems to scrape, extract, or reproduce substantial portions of Storyfold content;
- use Storyfold assets, stories, characters, artwork, audio, or text to train or build a competing product without our written permission; or
- use the Services in a way that is unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or intended to interfere with their normal operation.
The licence ends when these Terms end or if you materially breach them, subject to any rights that cannot lawfully be terminated.
5. Stories and fictional content
Storyfold stories are works of fiction unless a story expressly states otherwise. Names, characters, places, events, organisations, dialogue, and situations may be fictional, fictionalised, or used in a fictional context.
Some stories may contain themes or scenes that are not suitable for every reader. Where appropriate, Storyfold may provide content notes, age ratings, or storefront classifications. These are informational and do not replace your own judgment or any parental controls available on your device.
Story descriptions, screenshots, trailers, and promotional text are intended to describe the experience but may not show every feature, route, ending, or piece of content available in a story.
6. Purchases, pricing, and access to paid stories
Storyfold may be free to download while some stories, story packs, or other content require payment. Unless clearly stated otherwise at the point of purchase, paid story unlocks are intended to be one-time, non-consumable purchases rather than recurring subscriptions.
The price shown by the applicable storefront at the time you confirm a purchase is the price that applies to that transaction. Prices, taxes, currencies, and availability may vary by country, region, storefront, or platform.
Payments are processed by the storefront or payment provider through which the purchase is made. Storyfold does not receive your full payment-card details from those storefronts.
A purchase gives you a licence to access the relevant digital content in accordance with these Terms and the rules of the applicable storefront. It does not transfer ownership of the story, software, artwork, characters, music, or other intellectual property to you.
Purchases made through one storefront or platform do not automatically transfer to a different storefront or platform unless Storyfold expressly states that cross-platform entitlement is supported.
7. Refunds and consumer rights
Refund requests for purchases processed by Apple, Google, or another storefront are generally handled under that storefront's purchase and refund procedures. Storyfold may not be able to issue or reverse a storefront transaction directly.
Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law, including rights relating to defective digital content, refunds, remedies, withdrawal, conformity, or statutory guarantees where those rights cannot lawfully be excluded or waived.
8. Progress, saves, and local data
Storyfold does not currently require a Storyfold account to play. Story progress, choices, settings, and related data may be stored primarily on your device.
Depending on the version of Storyfold and the services available on your device, deleting the app, clearing application data, replacing a device, restoring a device, or disabling a platform backup service may cause some or all local progress to be lost.
Unless Storyfold expressly states that cloud synchronisation or cross-device transfer is supported, you should not assume that progress will automatically appear on another device.
Purchase entitlements and story progress are different things. Restoring an eligible purchase may restore access to paid content without restoring the choices or save progress previously stored on another device.
9. Updates, changes, and availability
We may update Storyfold to fix bugs, improve performance, add accessibility features, support new devices, adjust story content, add or remove features, or meet legal, technical, security, or storefront requirements.
We may also add, rename, re-price, delay, or discontinue stories or other content. We will try to avoid materially reducing access to content you have already purchased, subject to technical limits, platform requirements, legal obligations, security concerns, and circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Some features may require an internet connection, including downloading content, making or restoring purchases, checking entitlement information, opening external links, submitting feedback, or installing updates. Offline availability may vary by version, device, and story.
You are responsible for installing updates required for compatibility, security, or continued access to online-dependent features.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Services in violation of applicable law;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to Storyfold systems or services;
- interfere with, overload, damage, or disrupt the Services;
- use modified clients, cheats, exploits, or tools designed to bypass purchase or access restrictions;
- misrepresent your relationship with Storyfold;
- remove copyright, trademark, attribution, or ownership notices from Storyfold content; or
- use Storyfold to distribute malware, harmful code, or unlawful material.
11. Intellectual property
Storyfold and its associated software, stories, scripts, dialogue, characters, artwork, illustrations, interface designs, logos, wordmarks, icons, music, sound, documentation, and other content are owned by Storyfold or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
"Storyfold", the Storyfold emblem, the Storyfold wordmark, and associated branding may not be used in a way that suggests endorsement, sponsorship, or official affiliation without prior written permission.
Limited use of approved press assets may be permitted under the instructions provided in the Storyfold press kit. Those permissions do not transfer ownership and may be withdrawn if the assets are used misleadingly or unlawfully.
12. Feedback
If you voluntarily send us suggestions, ideas, bug reports, feature requests, or other feedback, you give us permission to use that feedback to operate, improve, develop, and promote Storyfold without an obligation to compensate you.
This does not transfer ownership of materials you already own, and it does not require you to provide feedback.
13. Third-party services and links
Storyfold may rely on or link to third-party services, such as app stores, payment processors, operating-system services, email applications, websites, or platform backup features.
Those third parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control their services and are not responsible for third-party content, outages, purchasing rules, account decisions, or policies except to the extent applicable law makes us responsible.
App-store downloads
If you download Storyfold through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or another platform, your use of that storefront and your storefront account is also subject to the platform provider's applicable terms. The platform provider is responsible for its own storefront, billing systems, and account services.
14. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in the Storyfold Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy explains, among other things, how support communications, purchase-related information, local progress data, and website or app services may be handled.
15. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Storyfold at any time by uninstalling the app and discontinuing use of the Services.
We may restrict or terminate access to online-dependent features if reasonably necessary to address unlawful use, fraud, security risks, abuse, or a material breach of these Terms. Where reasonably possible and legally appropriate, we will limit the action to what is necessary to address the issue.
Sections that by their nature should continue after termination — including intellectual-property provisions, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and applicable payment obligations — continue to apply.
16. Disclaimers
We aim to provide a reliable, carefully authored experience, but software and digital services can contain errors, become temporarily unavailable, or behave differently across devices and operating-system versions.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Services are provided on an "as available" basis and we do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, complete compatibility with every device or future operating-system version, or that every defect can be corrected immediately.
Nothing in this section excludes warranties, guarantees, or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer law.
17. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or other liability that applicable law does not permit to be excluded or limited.
To the extent permitted by law, Storyfold is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you began using the Services, or for loss caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Storyfold is not responsible for loss of local save data caused by deletion of the app, device failure, operating-system reset, unsupported data migration, or removal of local application data where Storyfold did not expressly promise server-side backup or cloud synchronisation.
If you are a consumer, your mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected.
18. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to Storyfold's place of establishment, without depriving consumers of mandatory protections granted by the law of the country in which they habitually reside where such protections apply.
Before starting formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us so we can try to resolve the issue directly.
If you are a consumer, any dispute-resolution or court rights available to you under mandatory local law remain available and are not replaced by this section.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when Storyfold changes, when legal or regulatory requirements change, or when clarification is needed.
When we make changes, we will update the effective date shown at the top of this page. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
Changes apply prospectively from their effective date unless applicable law requires otherwise.
